Frequently Asked Questions

Is reflexology suitable for me?
Reflexology is suitable for people of all ages, including babies and children.
For some conditions the treatment may have to be adapted slightly and this is the reason for our detailed consultation. There are only a very few occasions when reflexology would not be suitable. If you have any doubts then please give me a call and we can discuss options.

What conditions can reflexology help with?
Reflexology aims to help the general health of an individual. It cannot cure specific illness and different people will react differently to treatments at different times.
The main aim of reflexology is to get your body functioning at its optimum level so that it is better able to cope with any symptoms you are experiencing. So the short answer is that reflexology could help with any conditions and it is always worth trying to see how it could work for you.

Will the treatment be painful?
The treatment should not be painful. However, there may be some areas that feel tender or cause mild discomfort. This would usually be viewed as a beneficial effect of the treatment and would be due to imbalances felt in the feet being worked through by the therapist. I am always happy for you to communicate during the treatment if the pressure is not comfortable for you and we can work with that to make the experience relaxing and enjoyable.

What should I wear to my appointment?
I always recommend wearing comfortable clothing so that you are best able to relax and enjoy the treatment. You will need to remove shoes and socks (or tights) for your treatment so bear this in mind when deciding what to wear.

I don't like feet! Do I have to get my feet out?
Some people really do not feel comfortable having people looking at or touching their feet. I completely understand that this can be daunting at first and would make people as comfortable as possible in this situation. I hope that this wouldn't have to be a barrier for you to experience reflexology if it is something you would like to try. I do work predominantly with foot reflexology, but there are times when hand reflexology can be used as an alternative.

How will I feel during and after the treatment?
Most people will feel deeply relaxed and experience a sense of calm and well-being. On occasion, people report the opposite, they may feel emotional, tired and under the weather, which can come as a shock, but should be viewed as the body bringing itself back into balance and should correct itself within a day or so. It is often described as a 'healing response'.
The treatment can aid the bodies functioning which would increase the process of detoxification from the body. It is therefore always recommended that you keep well hydrated after a treatment to help flush through any toxins.

How many treatments will I need?
People will usually feel some benefits after the first treatment, more relaxed, improved sleep and a reduction in presenting symptoms. However, it is generally recommended that a course of treatments will see a more lasting improvement, particularly in chronic or ongoing conditions. I tend to recommend weekly treatments for the first month and then we make a treatment plan together as to how to continue.

How much does a session cost?
A session lasts for one hour, with the treatment lasting 40/45 minutes, and costs £45.

What will happen to my personal information?
All information that you provide me with and all details of the treatment will remain completely confidential. I am fully GDPR compliant.
