Reflexology is based on the concept that there are reflex points on the feet (or hands) that can be mapped to every organ, gland and structure of the body. The treatment is a touch therapy that involves massage and placing pressure on these specific points of the feet in order to treat the whole body.

Benefits the treatment can provide are:

  • aid relaxation
  • release tension in the body
  • allow for better quality sleep
  • improved mood
  • increased well being

By providing the person with these benefits it helps their body to work at a more optimum level, improving the flow of energy and bringing all of the bodies systems into balance, and this in turn gives the body a better ability to heal itself.

People will usually see some benefits after a single treatment, but for more chronic or ongoing conditions it is recommended to have regular treatments over a period of time. This will give the body more time and space to heal and also enables a therapeutic and supportive relationship to develop between the client and the therapist.

Simply giving yourself the time out of daily life for the treatment can be hugely beneficial and a real chance to switch off and focus on your needs.

To get an idea of the different ways reflexology can provide benefits to individuals, please watch this video from the Association of Reflexologists.

Reflexology should not be seen as a replacement for seeking medical advice from your GP. Reflexology does not claim to diagnose or cure an illness but can work towards well-being as a complement to any other medical treatments. It treats the person as a whole, working at a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.
